Going to the lying fruit

Geneva loves to be out and about. Everyday she asks if she can go to the library and gets upset when we don’t go. Ethan came up with the code name…one day he asked me if we were going to the lying fruit. It took a couple seconds for me to figure out what he was talking about. For the last couple Sundays Geneva will cry that she doesn’t want to leave church.

Winnie and Harley seem to be getting along. Harley tries to hit Winnie in the face when Winnie comes by but most of the time he just sits there and stares at Winnie. Winnie wants to play with Harley.

Rex’s parents came over last weekend. Bob is retiring a year early because he has high blood pressure and his medication for it doesn’t seem to be working like it used to. Jeanne said he is on 4 different ones now. Hopefully it will come down soon.

Happy Memorial Day!!!Today we are having a family over for a barbeque from tkd. Play games etc.. We have just a few more days of school left. I need to order the kids their tests. In MN you have to test your children once a year using a nationally recognized test if you homeschool. They always score very well. Rex’s dad said that he wants to give a scholarship to kids who are C students, maybe I should tell the kids not to do well on their test so they can get a scholarship?..lol

It's a girl!

We got Winnie, short for Wing Chun from the humane society. She is Welsh Cardigan Corgi. Ruff Ruff

Winnie is between 1-2 years old. She was taken to the humane society without tags. A couple of boys found her and brought her in. She has a very sweet temperament so far. The day we adopted her was her first day on the adoption floor. She was spaded the day before we got her. We went to the humane society to look at another dog we saw on their internet listings. We spent some time with her and really like the way she responded to Geneva. We planned on spending time with a couple other dogs but after spending time with another dog we wanted to see Winnie again. When we played with her the second time we decided without telling the kids we were going to adopt her. She didn’t want to leave the playroom when it was time to take her back to her area. Her name was Gina at the pound. So we of course called her Geneva! The name they picked for her at the pound was real cute but it was too close to Geneva’s name. She is an English breed, so her nickname is English. My neighbor across the street said Corgi’s are the dogs the Queen of England has. Isaac and Lilly are extremely happy about her. My dad told me they are diggers and he was right, when we got home from the vet yesterday she dug a hole to put her treat in and also tried to dig a hole to put her play ball in. We will have to be careful she doesn’t dig under the fence out back and get loose. Housetraining is coming along ok so far. One accident in the house but I guess that is to be expected. We don’t have any information on her so we really don’t know if she has been housetrained and everything else. She is a blank slate to us. She is very good natured and doesn’t bark easily.

Where is my supersuit?

Saturday we went to our TKD School’s tournament. I did concessions and everyone else entered the tournament. Rexford got third in sparring, second in forms, Ethan got second in board breaking, Isaac didn’t place, he did excellent, his division was really hard. Lilly got first in sparring, third in board breaking, Danielle got first in forms and Big Daddy got first in sparring. The best part about doing concessions was I didn’t have to get all nervous watching the kids compete. I missed cheering the kids from our school on during their competing. I am so glad I had people from the school cheering my kids on while they were competing though! Rex was moving from one ring to the next watching the kids and also competing himself. Geneva stayed with me while I did concessions, most of the time:) It would have been nice to have a babysitter but it worked out fine. We brought a blanket for her to sit on and our computer and she watched The Incredibles a lot of times! Ethan got the movie from Danielle for his birthday.

“Honey, Where is my supersuit?”
“I put it away”
“Where?”
“Why do you need to know?”
“The public is in danger!”
“My evening is in danger!”
“It’s for the greater good!”
“The greater good? I am your wife; I am the greatest good you are ever going to
get!”
Jason was exhausted after the tournament, he really did a great job!

Danielle and Suzie after the tournament

Anna the card shark complete with hat!

Nick with mom Lisa

I am hoping to get up some more pictures from the tournament. My camera was low on batteries so a lot of the pictures were blurry. If not, next time!

Happy Birthday Ethan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We celebrated Ethan’s birthday on Friday. He asked to go to the park and fly a really cool American eagle kite he has. It really wasn’t windy enough for it to stay up for very long. We went out for supper and took a trip to a pet store to look at birds.

Increasing Chi

Have you ever noticed that your children have a tendency to fall into the same sin as you do? I was praying for one of my children the other day, asking God to take this particular sin away. I struggle with it myself and wish I didn’t have to deal with it but at least I am able to help them with it since I have gone through it myself. When you see it in your children you a great opportunity to help them recognize it early in life and give them pointers about it.

Today will be catching up day. There are lots of things that need to get done today around the house. I woke up with a sore throat. I have been fighting a cold for the last 4 or 5 days. I wanna go back to bed! Looks like it will be beautiful outside today.

Our pastor preached on having a plurality of elders in church yesterday evening. That would be so wonderful if we had another elder. We should actively be looking for one! During the message he mentioned that more than two elders give each other energy. Rex later said that having a plurality of elders increases your chi. It’s in inside joke.

Birds too?

Bruises are a part of Tae Kwon Do. It should be in the description of the sport:) The first couple bruises you get are a bit shocking and then you have to just get use to them. Yes, I got a couple recently. Rex injured his knee yesterday during practice and he is going to see the doctor about it today.

We got Ethan and Rexford a Playstation 2 for their birthdays. We got them a couple games to go along with it and one of them is a game called Katamari Damacy. It is Japanese game were you have to roll a ball around and it picks up objects to complete a stage. You start off picking up small things like cookies and pencils and the more you pick up the bigger objects you can pick up like people, animals, and buildings. Your insulted after each level, it’s very strange and original.

We are thinking about getting a couple birds. Ethan would be their care taker. So it would be kind of like having a cat. They would not be any extra work for me. Ethan has been reading up on birds, like how to care for them etc for almost a year now. I wasn’t too keen on getting one since they need to have attention to survive but Ethan said that if you get 2 of them, they are enough stimuli for each other. We are not discounting getting a dog.

May

Happy 4th birthday Caitlin!

Today’s high temp 39! This is the typical weather we get in May. So hopefully we will have a warm summer. Last year it was warm so early and then we had such a cool summer. We have 2 birthdays in May so I usually remember what the weather is like around their birthdays:)

Ethan’s birthday is on the same day of the Governor’s Cup so we are celebrating his birthday early. We are competing at the Tae Kwon Do tournament. We have not decided who and what they are competing in so far.

We are getting a new back door courtesy of Rex’s parents. Our back door is sticky and is so difficult to open. It will be so nice to open the back door without a struggle!

One of my neighbors came over this week while I was working in the year. She has 8 kids and is tired of the public school they are attending. She told me their school has had 2 bombs threats so far this year. She is coming over again to get information on homeschooling.

I am spoiled!

We celebrated Mother’s Day on Saturday. I had a nice day with Rex and the kids. I got a lot of small kitchen appliances, which I was really excited about and I can’t wait to use! My mom bought me a mother’s necklace with the kid’s birthstones on it. It is very precious. Rex’s parents sent me a beautiful bouquet of roses. Lilly topped off the evening with a Silly Lilly show. I have some really great kids! I am so thankful to God for them all.

We have one more co-op planning meeting this week, and we are finished meeting until the fall. WOW! Can you believe school is almost over for the year?

Geneva has been opening the refrigerator and scooping out fingers full of mayo to eat. I guess she is lacking fat in her diet…..when she was younger she would eat butter out of the butter dish. A couple of the kids have started a “Doggy Fund”, they are saving money to purchase a dog. I am not sure our family can handle the responsibility of caring for a dog. Harley is becoming friendlier. I thought he was used to us already but he is still adjusting.

I plan on launching a new website about food, recipes, kitchen gadgets and cooking disasters. Maybe I will have something up after school is over.

Yes, the time of this posting is correct:)

Feeling better

Today was the first day I woke up without a fever in about a week. So I had more energy and decided to go to TKD practice. Let’s just say I was worn out before class started with the stretching exercises and going over my patterns. I don’t think it was a totally bad idea to go though. It feels like Friday even though it’s only Tuesday, probably because we didn’t go to church on Sunday. We listened to a couple of sermons over the internet though. They were on Financial Stewardship. They are part of a series we are listening to during family worship. The pastor goes into how we spend the Lord’s Day and whether woman should work outside the home. A lot of subjects that deal with coveting. It has been good for me. I didn’t consider myself prone to this before but once the pastor goes into the details of the matter you see your heart.

A couple of rules I have for my blog. One, never get too personal and two, don’t finish a conversation (as in what I wish I would have said or what I wouldn’t say to someone myself). I hope your not thinking…but her blog is personal…lol Yeah but not too personal;)
