Red Friday

This is part of an email I received recently:
This is a little something we can do to show support. I am honored and excited to get a chance to wear red and even more excited to do it in honor of our troops that prove Freedom isn't Free!!

RED FRIDAY

You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why.....
The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not
"organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many
Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize
that Americans support our troops.

Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting
Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that
every red -blooded American who supports our young men and women,
WEAR
SOMETHING RED. Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the
United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football
game at a University.

It will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking! of their well-being. You will feel better all day
Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example;
wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.
FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA

Have you forgotten?

A trucker who has painted his cab and trailer with the names of all those who lost their lives in 9/11. The trucker 's name is John Holmgren from Shafer Minn. The trucker has been "pulled over" numerous times just so the troopers can get their picture taken with the truck.

Here are a couple of the pictures

The terrorist our troops are fighting in Iraq are the same kind of people who would like to come into our country and attempt another 9/11.

I was at a store paying for something with a check. The check I was using had an american eagle with our flag in the background. The cashier commented that she like my checks. I shared with her the pictures this trucker has on his cab and truck. She had tears in her eyes when I finished, so did I. Have you forgotten?

Movie Mania

We took some of the kids to see the new Herbie movie last week. It was just as good as the old Herbie movies. We also recently rented the Pacifier, which was absolutely hilarious. The main character in the Pacifier taught a group of girls to defend themselves. So when it was time for them to use what they had been taught, I surmised it must have been Tae Kwon DO because when the used the moves in their fight scene they count in Korean.

I like chocolate cake......a lot!

Rexford and Ethan came home from a teen retreat Monday night. It was the first retreat I can remember our church going to since we have had teenagers. We have been attending the church for about 9 years now! Since Lilly was 4 months old! Ethan commented, “I thought it was a myth that girls spend a lot of time in the bathroom but it’s not a myth”. I guess you never know what your kids will learn! We also discovered Ethan dislikes “Christian” rap music. Ok I guess that doesn’t come as a surprise. Rexford liked hiking the most and Ethan liked the games they played, some newspaper game where you hit someone on the head with it.

I feel a cold coming on, and honestly I had to make myself not get mad about it. I have tried hard to stay healthy and to stay away from sick people. We are still working on a couple of projects around the house. Hopefully we will finish them before the end of summer :) I am still trying to work on losing my baby fat, Geneva is 2 ½ now and I haven’t lost all of the weight I gained while pregnant with her. It is terrible and awful! I have not been motivated to lose the rest of it and my self control is low. Our friends from Mississippi are coming up; we are looking forward to visiting with them. They have 5 kids and their youngest is one month older than Geneva.

Last week I was talking to someone about a book Rex and I went through shortly after we started going to church. Growing Kids God’s Way. There is a ton of good info in that book. There is also some stuff in that book I disagree with as with any book it’s not totally perfect except for the BIBLE of course. We have reasonably well behaved children. We used to have some people say to us, well wait till they are teenagers and once we had a couple teenagers some will say, wait till they are driving, I am sure after they begin to drive they will say something like, wait till they move out of the house. On and on. We don’t seem to have the same problems with our children that others do, we definitely have problems though. We don’t think our children’s main influences should be their peers, that is one of the reasons why we homeschool. So what if people think we don’t socialize our children enough. I believe that is a major with some people, don’t worry about our children, you probably have enough to worry about with your own. If there is something we are doing that is not biblical, then that’s another story, we would obviously want to know. So books that are about super scheduling or being super permissive (running every time you hear your baby whimper and meeting there every whim) are not part of our lives. If you are training up your children by a program that is not biblical don’t expect much out of your children. I am not the same parent I was 15 years ago, I hope I am better. Full of mistakes for sure but always trying to do what the Lord would want me to do.

Animal Haters

In the last couple of weeks, Harley the fraidy cat and Winnie our dog have been to the vet. Harley has gained a lot of weight and we have had to cut back on the food we have been giving him. He rarely gets a treat because he has such a sensitive stomach. Winnie has lost weight so we are giving her extra food and treats. I am not sure why she has lost weight and neither was the vet but it could be she is getting a lot more exercise than what she was used to.

A couple of years of ago I couldn’t image having fish, a cat and a dog. It all started with the fish. A long story on how we got the cat but really Harley is so user friendly. He is barely any work. It still seems like we don’t have a cat because he is so into his own world and he doesn’t like to play. I had a dog for about a week when I was little. A German Shepherd whose daddy was a police dog. Rex and I got a cocker spaniel shortly after we got married, and it was a disaster! We were not cut out to have an animal. Having a dog is a huge responsibility. I never thought we would have time for any animals. I would look down on dog owners who had smelly overweight dogs. They were not taking care of them right. So some people would say I was an animal hater. No, I didn’t hate animals I just knew they were not right for my lifestyle. Yes, I would make fun of people who wore sweaters with cat and dogs on them. If you see me wearing one I will understand if you laugh! Ok, I am not that crazy! I have always belonged to P.E.T.A People Eating Tasty Animals. (I know it’s an old joke) It is still funny to me. Peta people (not all of them) are the real animal haters. Please don’t send them any money! I use to think they thought more highly of animals than humans. They hate them both.

Keep Gitmo Open

Here is a good article on Gitmo, it dashes the notion they are being tortured. The men at Gitmo were not randomly chosen, they are there for a reason.

I got Rex a book for Father's Day, Black Rednecks and White Liberals by Thomas Sowell. Here is an article from one of the best columnist around.

Townhall.com is a great resource.

Free Swimming!

We went to a lake the other day, it was free! I guess we will not get a seasonal pool pass this year if we can go to the lake for free. I just don’t swim in lake water:)

Winnie is getting along just fine. She is so protective of us all. She is wary of people she doesn’t know but doesn’t seem scared of other animals. Geneva can be pretty rough with her and she doesn’t mind at all. I am trying to teach Geneva to be gentle with Winnie though. We started obedience training this week. So far so good. Winnie can sit and stay very well, we need to work on her heeling.

Are you ever stuck with someone and try to make conversation and it’s always one sided? So you feel like all your doing is asking questions to get a conversation going. Then you feel like you are being nosy because your asking so many questions! Oh well, what else can you do. Sit there and be rude or look like your nosy? I guess it doesn’t really matter:)

Danielle asked if boys are outmmature or immature. Good question!

Yee Haw

I have been so busy lately. No time to blog until now. The last couple of weeks have been very full. We took the kids and a friend from church to Valley Fair last week. It was very crowded! The kids didn’t get to go on as many rides as they usually do. I had a fun time at the water park in Valley Fair. Geneva had a great time and took a nap after playing in the wading pool on her Daddy’s lap. It was Danielle’s first time going and Rex and I thought she would be nervous on the roller coasters but she wasn’t. She would make comments like “That was nothing” or “Yee Haaw”. Rex would like to go to Cedar Point in Ohio. It is an amusement park that is known to have the best roller coaster rides.

A couple of the kids have started their CAT tests. We celebrated Father’s Day last Saturday. We spent a lot of the day getting some projects around the house finished. There is always something to be done. My mom got Rex a t-shirt that says “Rex Kwon Do, Bow to your Sensei”.
BTW, Tae Kwon Do is Korean and Sensei is from Karate which is Japanese. Oops!

We finally got a patio door ordered. Something as simple as ordering a door turned into a big hassle. Blah Blah Blah. That is all I am going to say about it.

I went to a Wing Chun class with Rex last week. It was a lot harder than I thought. It seems a lot of people think their martial art is the only and best system. I prefer practicing TKD but I can see the benefits of Wing Chun. I plan to practice Wing Chun but probably not as much as Rex.

More Chocolate ....Yes!

Last weekend my mom and Frank came for a visit. We had a nice time with them. We played a couple games of Taboo. Danielle was the official timer and when she would flip the sand timer over she would yell “Tae Bo”. I didn’t do a lot of cooking like I usually do when we have company over. I made a lot of packaged and boxed items. I also bought pastry from the bakery instead of having homemade. It certainly didn’t taste as good but I didn’t have time for anything else. Nobody minded, and that is what packaged goods are supposed to be used for when you don’t have time to make it yourself. Do I feel guilty about it, just a little.

Ethan, Isaac, Lilly and Danielle tested on Saturday for their brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. I was glad my mom was able to watch their testing and see how far they have come since the last time she saw them test. They all did a great job. Now we all are the same color belt. I really need to work on my tornado axe kick with my left leg, I can do one on my right leg:) I have 4 tornado axe kicks in my basic pattern. People tell me it will come with practice, I need to practice more!

We are still working on housetraining Winnie. Winnie has been with us for a week and a half now, it seems like we have always had her so I think that is a good sign?!
